Wikipedia has this to say about affiliate marketing- "Affiliate marketing is a web-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts."

May be you saw something on the internet or someone told you about affiliate marketing but you are still not sure what it is. The bottom line it is about making money on the internet and there are many different ways to do it.

If you are new to affiliate marketing then this site should prove helpful. This site is about what worked and did not work for me in my journey into affiliate marketing, so hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and get a few tips that will help you to get that coveted first $100 check from Google Adsense or  Yahoo or elsewhere.


Who am I? I am a person with a stifled creative side and a technical background. I see affiliate marketing as the perfect way to combine my creative and technical skills. Don't worry if you do not have any creative or technical background there are plenty of people on the internet willing to help. 

If you are going to be an affiliate marketer you will need to know where to host your site, how to buy a domain name, programs for creating web pages and finally affiliate programs.

You will want to constantly hone your affiliate marketing skills by reading books, finding new affiliate marketing programs,  and scouring the web for useful web sites (hopefully this one is helpful).

The thing to remember is to be persistent, it takes time to climb the serach engine ranking.  Also, it is important to keep updating your site or it will start to slide down the search engine ranking.

I love Hotwire for booking travel and I decided that I would see if they had an affiliate program so I can put Hotwire adds on my travel blog. 

I did a quick Google search and found LinkShare, it offers a Hotwire affiliate program. LinkShare seems like the ideal affiliate program for beginning affiliate marketers. LinkShare's sign up was simple and putting their  banners into my site was as simple as cutting and pasting html code. 

The nice thing about LinkShare is it represents many companies so when you sign up for LinkShare you have dozens of affiliate programs to choose from.

I did a few searches to get a feel if Linkshare had a worthwhile affiliate program, I did not find a negative review. Maybe I did not look hard enough but I only found positive reviews.
