| I am a big believer in how-to books and luckily there is a library out there on affiliate marketing. I usually shop at Amazon when I am looking for a specific book or specific type of book. The reason that I like Amazon or other online book sellers are the reviews, it is really helpful to get multiple opinions about a specific book. Below are the books on affiliate marketing that I have read and reread. I have included a brief review, obviously I do not do get paid to review books, but I hope you find the reviews helpful.
"Starting an Online Business for Dummies" was the most helpful book that I have read so far. It is an in depth look at most aspects of starting an online business. It has extremely good information on on where to host you website-
Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, and SEO (search engine optimization). It covers two
of the simplest ways to create income, Google Adsense, and becoming
an Amazon affiliate . You have probably noticed the link above for purchasing "Starting an Online Business for Dummies" directly from Amazon. Amazon has many ways to insert their products in your website and you receive a percentage of the sale if someone clicks on the "Buy from Amazon.com" button. OK, this book does not directly apply to affiliate marketing but is is a good look at advertising on the internet. If you are interested in advertising or Google it is probably worth reading.
I read this book on vacation which was good timing, it is a light read. The book is divided into three sections, "Success stories", "What we have learned from the success stories", and "All time greats". The good thing about the success stories is most of them are motivational, some of the people overcame incredible odds and found their perfect job on the web and other people just stumbled into their web success. Unfortunately the success stories are short on specifics. The second section "What we have learned from the success stories", is really lacking in specifics and the examples at then end of the section are really glossed over. As much as it sounds that I did not like this book I really did enjoy most of the success stories and there are many links to useful websites. The most important thing I learned from the book was brevity. Somewhere in the book they state that you have about ten seconds to capture the interest of the average visitor to your site. I thought about that and realized it is very true, I will generally scan the first couple of paragraphs of a website if I cannot find what I am looking for I am out of there. With that piece of information in mind, I edited my website taking out about half of the verbage, so if you think the site is wordy now you should have seen it before. Located below is an Amazon widget that displays ten books that pertain affiliate marketing and web page creation. I have an entire page on Amazon affiliate marketing, check it out. If you see a book that you like feel free to purchase it through this website.
